Lattafa's Teriaq is an original fragrance from Lattafa made in collaboration with famed perfumer Quentin Bisch. As such, there were probably very high expectations of this one. It's definitely an original and challenging hybrid fragrance, combining a classic gourmand DNA with a smoky leather one. This is a great blend of sweet, caramel, leather, honey, vanilla, floral, almond, powdery and musk notes.
You'd think this would be a it out of the park but if you read the Fragrantica reviews and score on this, it's proven surprisingly divisive. You'd think this was a strong oud fragrance people were reviewing, it's so split down the middle. To be fair, I'd say it does lack a fresh note to liven it up a little despite the presence of some floral notes, but it's hardly the first fragrance with that characteristic.
Surprisingly, Teriaq has a fair amount of competition with a similar style of gourmand DNA, even from its own makers. Think of JPG's Scandal Pour Homme, Viktor & Rolf's Bon Bon or even Lattafa's own Eclaire or Ramz Silver. Gourmand fragrances that are caramel and/or vanilla forward. This could be potentially redundant especially if you already own another caramel forward fragrance. But again, that smoky leather note does really make this stand out.
This is a superb choice for gourmand lovers, but they should be aware of that strong leather note as it may throw them off. Combined with the caramel, it gives the olfactory illusion of a coffee note but will remind you in whiffs that it is actually a leather note. Conversely, leather fragrance lovers used to more ruggedly masculine leather fragrances will be thrown off by all the sweet gourmand notes in here. And those who dislike sweet fragrances should stay away altogether.
This is unisex, it's really good for social occasions especially date nights, is a good performer and comes at a good price. Presentation is nice, though the box is a tad wasteful considering that it's probably going straight to recycling. Bottle is gorgeous. Highly recommended.
